Baseline test free space path loss at 1800MHz without bag.

Loss through bag material shown above as approximately 30dB attenuation at 1800MHz.
2100MHz

Baseline test free space path loss at 2100MHz without bag.

Loss through bag material shown above as approximately 30dB attenuation at 2100MHz.
Testing
Tests carried out in isolation with Rohde & Schwarz FSH3 spectrum analyzer to ascertain attenuation of new RF screening bag presented for testing 19th September 2007. Tests carried out on the morning of Thursday 20th of September 2007.
Tests were carried out with calibrated aerials and bag attenuation was ascertained at 900, 1800 and 2100MHz. Attenuation through the material was found to be 19dB at 900MHz, and approximately 30dB at 1800 and 2100MHz. 17dB attenuation through the bag appears to be sufficient to inhibit a network connection.
Simple on air tests were conducted with GSM900, GSM1800 and 3G phones by placing an already network registered phone into the bag and folding over the over end in the prescribed way (double folding the open end). A call was then made to the phone under test to establish if the phone would ring when called. In each test, the phone did not connect to the network, receive a call and ring whilst in the bag. A connection between the network and the handset could not be established.
Tests within an isolated environment (RF cage) were conducted at GSM900 and GSM 1800 frequencies with a Rohde & Schwarz CMD 55 test set. These additional tests also proved the bag to be effective at these frequencies, inhibiting test equipment from connecting to the handset.
